Hi there internet traveller and welcome to the Winkler Psychology blog! My name is Chris and I am the owner of the practice and a clinical psychologist. I will be writing blog posts mainly about my area of interest, which is anxiety disorders. I hope to inform and spark interest (or even spark joy as Marie Kondo says).
I will cover common questions about anxiety disorders like what they are, what causes them, what keeps them going, and what can be done about them. I will do some deep dives into specific types of anxiety, the latest advancements in anxiety research, and topical issues or events related to anxiety (hello unprecedented global COVID-19 pandemic!). I will also be writing some tips, strategies, and ideas for managing different anxiety related problems.
Keep in mind that the information on this blog isn’t meant to provide or replace mental health assessment, treatment, or psychological care. If you are experiencing an anxiety or other mental health issue the best thing is to talk to a qualified professional such as a GP, psychologist, or psychiatrist. They will be able to help you work out what the issue is and what to do about it. A good place to start is to see your local GP for an initial assessment and referral. If you are in Melbourne, you can also make an appointment with myself at Winkler Psychology. This website isn’t an emergency service resource so if you need urgent help then call 000 for emergency services or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
